On August 18, 2011, Skills for Change hosted Mentorpalooza at the Canadian Air and Space Museum at Downsview Park in Toronto. The event was both a celebration of mentoring and a seminar explaining the many aspects of mentoring being explored in the settlement sector. The afternoon agenda featured guest speaker Marva Wisdom, a panel discussion with 5 expert panelists, plus a mentoring marketplace, where participants got to choose 3 of seven breakout sessions discussing group mentoring, online mentoring, speed mentoring, workplace training, a fascinating Mentoring to Placement bridging program and much more.
The evening offered a keynote speech by Ontario’s Fairness Commissioner The Honourable Jean Augustine, plus live entertainment from the Hdrummers and a mentor recognition ceremony.
If you ever doubted the value of mentoring, then doubt no more. Plan to attend next year’s Mentorpalooza.
