With almost everyone being on the internet these days, we have access to media from around the world: television, radio, newspapers, magazines, movies, blogs, streaming broadcasts and podcasts in almost every language.

The global media revolution we are experiencing will – combined with the rate of technological innovation – change our lifestyles as profoundly as the printing press or the industrial revolution. Welcome to the 21st century!

And welcome to our Media issue – where we’ll be taking a much more down-to-Earth look at what’s filling the pages and the airwaves in Ontario. Hopefully we can guide you to the appropriate ethnic media as well as giving you an illuminating and entertaining look at the traditional media that has helped make Canada what it is today.

Claudio Munoz and Teenaz Javat both take wide angle looks at ethnic media in Ontario and explain why it is thriving. In other articles, we examine some of the major ethnic media in greater detail.

Consuelo Solar writes about Canada’s public broadcaster, the CBC and the changes it has made over the years to make sure it remains relevant today.

Theresa Wojtasiewitcz checks out some of the educational options for getting into media or updating your credentials in Ontario.

Sabine Eghoetz, Lin Wang and Sandra Fletcher look at some of the pros and cons of staying connected through the internet.

We also look at ethnic marketing and advertising, programming beamed in from around the world – and, as usual, a few stories unrelated to our theme (although everything is related to communications in one way or another) including the New Pioneers Awards and Jobs in the IT sector.
