Welcome to the Canadian Newcomer 2010 Settlement Guide to Ontario.
Service providers across the province not only recognize the value of this annual issue as a resource for newcomers – but also use it as an agency resource, so settlement workers and agency staff can more easily direct you to appropriate services in your community.
They have come to recognize the importance of making sure their own listings are complete and up to date – so that you can more easily find their agencies and the services they offer.
Having a hardcopy version of the guide enables you to bring it with you while you are on the road. All the telephone numbers, websites and street addresses are available wherever you are – whether or not you have a cellphone, laptop or blackberry with you. In any case, settlement, education and employment directories are all available for download as printable PDFs.
While more and more information is available every year, and we try to provide something new each time, we are also careful to make sure that the Settlement Guide doesn’t get too large. No one wants to carry a massive telephone directory in their purse or briefcase, so we work hard to keep it portable enough that you can fold it in half and put it in your pocket.
We have a French version, the Nouvel Arrivant Guide D’etablissement de l’Ontario that lists all French language services.
Whether you’re looking for language services, employment services or basic settlement information about housing, health and other concerns, the Settlement Guide can help.
We don’t expect you to sit down and read it from cover to cover, just to keep it and use it when you need it.
